Getting Gigs is About More Than Contacts

December 22, 2009

So our newest project DIYgigs.com is open to the public.

You can now search for venues/contacts all across North America and you’ll find what your looking for. Hopefully you’ll be able to input your own contacts to help other bands and they’ll do the same for you. All making gigging a little easier.

But as many seasoned musicians will tell you, getting a gig can be about much more than simply having the appropriate contact information. Of course that is a great place to start, but many gigs are found by making real connections with other musicians.

Start by talking to the musicians close to home. Talk to other bands, ask them if they have any inside information on a club, or some suggestions on where you should play.  And like we said in the New Rockstar Philosophy Book, be willing to make first contact. If you know of a place that would be perfect for a local band, tell them. Give them a lead and they’ll reward you. It’s good karma and it will only help you.

So head to DIYgigs.com check the listings for your city, add, edit, and leave feedback for other musicians. Then get out there and talk to musicians, because that’s where it all starts. Real people and real connections. Wah Wah.
