Iphone Apps Save The Music Business??

August 10, 2009

Artist Iphone Apps
Who knows, but it’s definitely something more artists should try and take advantage of. Mobile applications are currently exploding and probably will keep blowing up once other cell companies get their app stores up to snuff.

An artist Iphone App gives a fan a unique way to interact with the artist and the music. You can have music/video on there, you could promote a tour, you could give it away to build a fanbase, etc..

What if you had an app that had a year’s worth of 3Ps, it would allow you to keep in touch with fans, and it would cost under $5?? Why not also throw in a discount on anything physical you have for sale too??

The iphone app is something actually kind of new and that carries some weight for the moment. People may actually pay for that because it’s more interesting than a CD and gives you more bang for you buck. You can really get creative with it.

If you don’t know code and/or design, there’s definitely going to be a learning curve or you’re going to shell out some dough. That being said, it might be worth checking out e-lance (after you have an idea) to see what kinda bids you get.

It might actually cost less than pressing CDs. It’s definitely worth checking out before this becomes boring for people.

I’ve been thinking about how artists could (and probably should) create their own apps. It’s something I plan to do in the future–especially now that I have an iPhone! I’m constantly playing TapTap, and I was thrilled to find out that one of my favorite bands (Phoenix) has a song of theirs up for free. I’ve introduced a lot of my friends to them because of TapTap.

Personal apps are one of the many steps one could take in this crazy industry.

This is a really good idea. I was toying with the NIN app awhile back and thought Trent had put some pretty cool ideas into motion with it.

Nice read, keep up the good work!
