The Beatles Subscription Music

March 18, 2009

There’s word that everybody’s favourite band, The Beatles, may finally be available digitally. The Guardian is reporting that George Harrison’s son, Dhani Harrison, has raised the idea of  letting The Beatles catalog out in a stand alone digital store.

Although there have been rumors for years about the possibility of The Beatles music being available on iTunes, to date, the best place to get their music is

With all this talk about artist to fan subscription models, it would be interesting to see The Beatles engage in this sort of thing for their digital store. I know that subscription models are based on the idea that the artist will keep making music. But I would pay even at the hint of new remixes, old demos, archival footage, rare pictures, anything that The Beatles could offer. The Beatles could revolutionize the world of music yet again.

I hope The Beatles do make a move soon because as Dhani Harrison said “We’re losing money every day.” The funny thing is, that could be a motto for the whole music industry. Everyone should just pick a solution already, because everyday they are losing piles of cash.

Dhani’s gotta sell his idea on his mom, Sir Paul, Ringo and Yoko, and whoever are the other powers-that-be at Apple Corps.

I’m not sure the Beatles “family” is ready to go there quite yet. It’s been this long, I’m not convinced that Dhani can twist arms by himself.

Sell songs with iTunes has many advantages but it’s boring. Anybody does it.(Look at Led Zep case, it’s a pretty big issue at first and what?) The Beatles always try something different. And they should now. So Dhani is perhaps right.More details, boy?
