Pizza Hut Takes on The Music Business

November 12, 2008

I recently discovered that Pizza Hut, of all companies, is entering the music business! Yes, that’s right.

Emusic.com is partnering with Pizza Hut to offer 75 free downloads with each online Pizza Hut order up until December 27th. It’s just a promotion, but the impact  may be long term. Dominos might start doing the same thing, and so on…

This could be a good thing. E-music is hoping that people will sign up for monthly subscriptions after.

more subscribers=more downloads=more money for artists=more money for company.

Who knows what the future will hold, but a system where music seems free, but is still paid for with a low subscription fee (lower than E-music and Rhapsody) or a bundle package through ISP/Cell Phone Companies, would blow-up in my opinion.

History will tell whether this works out or expands but I have to prematurely conclude that this is another one of Pizza Huts retarded gimmicks – like everything they do to hawk their shitty pizza. Stuffed crusts and triple deckers and what not. Maybe they should get back to basics – good pie, competitive price, quick service. Isn’t that what people want in a pizza joint? I can download as many “free” songs as I want in the time it will take to get that lukewarm, overpriced, circle of garbage delivered.

A couple more things to consider: the pizza buyer has to chose 1/3rd of their free tracks from a “special Pizza Hut playlist.” Also, the article implies that if customers don’t cancel their trial subscription (I have to fill shit out?) they will be charged 12 bucks a month for 30 downloads. The people this is aimed at are never going to go for this bullshit! Sorry to harsh up your comments section but there’s two things I feel strongly against: Pizza Hut and companies trying to pretend like their service is quick, easy, and worst of all free when in actuality it is none of those things.

I know I wouldn’t buy pizza due to this promo. I am interested to see what happens though.
