Wal-Mart Drops DRM

October 11, 2008

The power of OUR GENERATION GROWS!

Last month, the Wal-Mart informed customers who bought its DRM-wrapped music that it would no longer issue keys to unlock songs. That meant music buyers would no longer be able to move their libraries to new computers or players. On Thursday, the company reversed that decision and said it would continue to issue keys for “the present time,” according to Ravi Jariwala, a Walmart.com spokesman. –CNET

Wal-Mart has never been known (at least to me) as a fighter for consumers rights. It only seems to have fought for its own interests.

So maybe I spoke to soon. Our generation DEMANDS drm free music. To increase the digital music market share against Apple, Wal-Mart has taken a more forward thinking approach to digital music than Apple.

This seems like a smart business move for Wal-Mart but still HOW MUCH MUSIC IS LEGAL ON YOUR IPOD?

It would cost a fortune to stock a 40 Gig iPod with legal music. The way Wal-Mart could really capture the digital music marketplace is by having a SUBSCRIPTION BASED model. Because although there has been some web chatter about DRM it still is not going to hurt or fix the issue.

PEOPLE “STEAL” MUSIC. YOU CAN LOCK IT UP ALL YOU WANT.

PEOPLE WILL FIND A WAY. MUSIC WILL FIND A WAY.

Take Control of Your Music,
