iTunes Genius Music Mix

October 7, 2008

Do you have Apple’s Genius on your iTunes?

I recently downloaded it and wow!

It’s like a more motivated, smarter, and better functioning version of ME that compiled a great list of songs!

This is EXACTLY what DIGITAL music needs.

Our Generation devours music at light speed. We simply don’t have the time to listen to EVERY SINGLE SONG ON EVERY SINGLE ALBUM that we’ve download.

Typically, torrents of that new buzz band can be downloaded in the time it takes to read the review of it. Within minutes your listening to the tracks instead of waiting for their myspace to load, or google’ing their name.

We need a program like genius. It is a advanced filter. It makes choices that we trust because we trust the brand, apple.

Then we can steal the playlists and show the world our advanced musical tastes.

Of course this depends on how large your own collection of music is, but I am going to assume that you have gigs, if not terabytes of music. How you got your music doesn’t matter. There are no controls to hold you back with Genius. That’s what Apple understands better then all of the majors. You can’t control music. People will always find a way to hear it.

The only detraction I found is that their library doesn’t recognize all artists (The Beatles!!!), but I think it soon will.

Download it and give it a go.

Here’s an excerpt recent playlist:

  • Chemtrails – Beck
  • Mansard Roof- Vampire Weekend
  • Sequestered in Memphis – The Hold Steady
  • Sunrise – Yeasayer
  • Troublemaker – Weezer
  • Intimate Secret – The Raconteurs
  • Fireworks – Animal Collective
  • Hong Kong – Gorillaz
  • LES Artistes – Santogold
  • 42 – Coldplay
